Tragedy in Chania: 80-year-old man crushed by tree when he went to prune it and died

An elderly man died on Friday night in the village of Vafes, Apokoronas, Chania, while trying to cut a carob tree. Under unclear circumstances, the tree fell on the 80-year-old, crushing him. The unfortunate man was found unconscious by a relative, who alerted authorities. Fire Department personnel had to cut the branches of the tree in order to free the man, who was taken to the hospital in Chania where he was pronounced dead. www.ertnews.gr
