- Uruguay left back Maxi Ara scored in the 92nd minute to secure the aggregate lead for Sporting. "People thought it was almost impossible," Ara said, describing the historic fightback that ended the northernmost team's Champions League journey.
- Arsenal ensured Premier League representation in the last eight after beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate. The club remains in contention for a quadruple of trophies, including Sunday's English League Cup final against Manchester City.
- Defending champion PSG will face either Galatasaray or Liverpool in the quarterfinals. Sporting advances to face Arsenal, which kept alive its hopes of a quadruple of trophies this season.
