Nicholson Addresses Celtic Turmoil in Statement as One Man Backed to Change Fortunes
Chief executive Michael Nicholson said Celtic will support the 74-year-old as the club reports a £4.8 million post-tax loss.
Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson confirmed the board's backing of 74-year-old manager Martin O'Neill on Tuesday, vowing to support the embattled manager despite recent defeats.
Pressure on O'Neill mounted after a 1-0 home defeat to Rangers on Sunday, plus back-to-back losses in the Premier Sports Cup and league following a Champions League play-off exit to LASK.
Annual accounts released Tuesday showed a £4.8m post-tax loss for the year ending June 30, 2026, with revenue falling 22.7 percent to £111m from £143.6m in 2025.
Nicholson acknowledged Champions League disappointment, stating "Reaching the league phase of the Champions League is an objective for us all, and we are sorry not to have achieved it," while pledging focus on domestic and Europa League success.
The three-week international break offers O'Neill space to reflect on his future, while Chairman Dermot Desmond and Nicholson face weekly protests at Parkhead from supporters questioning the club's direction.
