Celtic provide Alistair Johnston fitness update after injury comeback cut short
Martin O'Neill said Johnston will need scans after the defender felt hamstring discomfort and lasted only 21 minutes on his return.
On Sunday, Celtic defender Alistair Johnston was forced off during a 2-1 victory against Hibernian at Easter Road. The 28-year-old Canadian international, who recently returned from an August hamstring injury, lasted 21 minutes after his second-half substitute appearance.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed Johnston had missed seven months last season with similar hamstring issues. The defender had been sidelined since early August before making his comeback from the bench early in the second half.
Despite the victory, O'Neill expressed clear concern, stating "it would be a big blow to him" if the discomfort proves to be a recurrence. He praised Celtic's "best win of the season" after overcoming an early goal from Hibs.
Central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers replaced Johnston after 73 minutes, playing the final 17 minutes. The United States defender, who had been missing since mid-September, provided defensive support through the final whistle.
Celtic will await medical scans to determine the severity of Johnston's potential hamstring injury. O'Neill remains cautious about the prognosis, saying "I don't know, I don't want to think about something that may not be there.
