CD Projekt to Launch New Expansion for 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'
On Wednesday, Poland's largest video game developer CD Projekt announced a third story expansion for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" launching in 2027, titled "Songs of the Past," available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The original "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" has sold more than 60 million copies since 2015 and won over 250 Game of the Year awards, following two critically acclaimed expansions: "Hearts of Stone" in October 2015 and "Blood and Wine" in 2016.
Fools Theory, a studio of "industry veterans" who worked on the original game, is co-developing the expansion with CD Projekt; detailed information arrives in late summer 2026 amid reports of a 'Dune-style' location.
Analyst Wojciechowski from Ipopema Securities noted the market expected a 2026 release, raising questions about whether Witcher 4 could shift to 2028; CD Projekt's shares fell around 4 per cent by 0948 GMT following the announcement.
Within a six-year roadmap, CD Projekt plans "The Witcher 5" and "The Witcher 6" while developing Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2, and projects codenamed Sirius and Hadar; Cyberpunk 2 won't launch until at least 2030.
It is already the third extension for the wild hunt of the sorcerer: CD project RED officially announced "Songs of the Past" for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt".
