Two New Indian Consulates in Russia Will Help in Increasing Bilateral Trade: Jaishankar
India opened consulates in Yekaterinburg and Kazan to boost trade, tourism, and academic ties, aiming for $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, says External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
- On Wednesday , External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated the Consulate General of Yekaterinburg and the Consulate General of Kazan after months of consistent work supported by Russia.
- Jaishankar said the openings aim to boost trade, tourism, economic, scientific, technological, academic and cultural ties and strengthen collaboration between Indian and Russian industries to help reach USD 100 billion by 2030.
- As a regional hub, Yekaterinburg is called the third capital of Russia with heavy engineering and defence manufacturing; the diaspora includes more than 30,000 Indian students, with 7,000 under Kazan's jurisdiction and 3,000 under Yekaterinburg's.
- At the event Jaishankar said, `This is a very important day in the diplomatic history of India in the Russian Federation`, attended by Andrey Rudenko and Vinay Kumar, following cooperation agreements between India and Russia.
- Jaishankar said the consulates will benefit the Indian diaspora, business community and students by improving consular services, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit last year, adding `I had the pleasure of going there myself, after Moscow and St Petersburg, and with good reasons`.
