Casey Wasserman Says He Won't Resign as LA28 Chairman Despite Mayor Urging Him to Quit
LA28 said an outside legal review found no basis for Wasserman to step down after Justice Department documents revealed 2003 emails with Ghislaine Maxwell.
On Thursday, LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman confirmed he will not resign, dismissing calls to step down following revelations about his past email exchanges with Ghislaine Maxwell, a former associate of Jeffrey Epstein.
The organizing committee conducted an outside investigation into Wasserman's interactions with Maxwell, concluding his relationship did not exceed public documentation and formally backing his continued leadership of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Despite public pressure from Mayor Karen Bass and other politicians to resign, Wasserman stated he remains in regular contact with the mayor, describing their ongoing working relationship as productive and focused on the Games.
The International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission lauded the committee's progress, with LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover noting that sponsorship deals and ticket sales keep the $7.1 billion budget on track for success.
Officials are currently managing visa processing and security protocols for the 2028 Games, emphasizing that maintaining international relationships remains a priority regardless of political transitions or the specific administration in office.
