Soldier, Partner Accused of Starving Baby and Dog to Death
Prosecutors say the couple deprived their son of food for two weeks and neglected three dogs, including one that died of starvation.
On Wednesday, a federal grand jury indicted Emma Bradshaw, 22, and Ladarrion McCray, 23, on eight counts including felony murder by child abuse stemming from their infant son's death at Fort Benning.
Prosecutors allege the couple 'willfully deprived' their son of sustenance for more than two weeks while living in on-post housing, leading to his death on Jan. 28.
When Army Criminal Investigation Division agents searched the home on Jan. 28, they discovered two severely malnourished dogs and a deceased dachshund in a trash barrel outside.
Facing up to life in prison if convicted, both defendants also face animal cruelty charges; the Army initiated discharge proceedings against McCray for the alleged conduct.
Investigators allege the couple made false statements to Army agents by denying their child showed signs of illness and claiming they buried the dachshund in an off-post park.
