Mets Rookie Outfielder Carson Benge Leaves Game with Left Wrist Soreness After Making Sliding Catch
Benge was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs before leaving after a sliding catch into the wall, the Mets said.
On Friday, New York Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge exited the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with left wrist soreness, removed in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Benge appeared to jam his wrist in the third inning after sliding backward into the wall to rob Ronny Simon of extra bases, showing clear discomfort on the ground.
Before his departure, the 23-year-old rookie went two-for-two with a run and two RBI. This season, Benge has slashed.270/.330/.412 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI across 112 games.
Manager Andy Green told reporters, "We'll see how he wakes up in the morning and determine if he needs potentially more tests." Green noted the wrist is currently stiff.
Losing Benge would be a major blow for The Mets, who are already missing Juan Soto, sidelined since July 25 with a left calf strain.
