Carnival data breach exposes info of nearly 6M cruise travelers
Carnival said the breach exposed names, birth dates and email addresses, and it is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring through TransUnion.
Carnival Corporation began notifying 6 million people on May 27 of a data breach after discovering unauthorized activity on its network April 14, affecting customers of the world's largest cruise line operator.
Threat actors used social engineering to trick an employee into providing access to Carnival's IT systems on April 10; the company stopped the activity and launched an investigation with outside cybersecurity experts.
Stolen data includes names, dates of birth, email addresses, loyalty program information, and government-issued identification numbers such as passport and driver's license details.
