Carney to travel to Turkey for NATO summit next week, then Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Mark Carney will attend a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, on July 7 and 8 before visiting Saudi Arabia, marking his first official visits to both countries.
The NATO summit in Ankara will focus on celebrating increased defense spending by alliance members after U.S. pressure to raise military and security budgets.
NATO nations must present credible plans to meet the defense spending target of five per cent of GDP by 2035, as outlined before the summit.
In Saudi Arabia, Carney will meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss expanding trade and investment; it is the first Canadian prime minister visit to Saudi Arabia in 26 years.
