Carney Says Canada at ‘Crucial Time’ in Conversation with Quebec Premier-Designate
Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke with Quebec premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon after the Parti Québécois won a minority government in the provincial election.
Carney called the moment a “crucial time” and said attention should remain on current issues rather than a future referendum.
Carney said they discussed infrastructure funding and support for Quebec workers affected by the U.S. trade war.
The Parti Québécois won 59 seats, five short of a majority, while the Coalition Avenir Québec lost every seat after eight years in power.
