- The attack occurred amid renewed threats to maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, where Houthi forces announced a "naval blockade" on Saudi Arabia last month.
- Following the sinking, the Yemeni Coast Guard and the National Resistance Forces rescued all 14 seafarers, including 13 Indians, 13 nautical miles south of Hudaydah.
- Sonowal instructed the Director General Maritime Administration to coordinate with agencies to ensure the security of Indian seafarers in the region.
