Cardiologist Runs for Mayor; PCSK9 Inhibitor Price Drops; Pregnancy OK After AVR?
Nee says she will focus on affordability, safety and fiscal health while pitching community-based policing and stronger police staffing.
On Tuesday, Dr. Lisa Nee, a Chicago-based cardiologist, announced her campaign for mayor, joining a growing field of contenders ahead of the February 23, 2027 election.
A former ICU nurse and breast cancer survivor, Nee rose to prominence as a whistleblower exposing patient mistreatment at the Hines Veterans Administration in the western suburbs.
Focusing on fiscal health and safety, she describes herself as an 'outsider to machine politics' and advocates for 'community-based policing' and improved police recruitment.
She joins a competitive race including Representative Mike Quigley, Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza, and Review Commissioner George Cardenas among other contenders.
ABC7 Political Analyst Laura Washington called Nee 'truly an outsider' but noted her lack of political experience could prove challenging in a race favoring an incumbent.
