Remains and Car Key Found in Search for Missing Tourist
Tasmania Police confirmed the Honda car key and human bones found in Arthur River belong to missing Belgian tourist Celine Cremer after a volunteer-led search.
- On Monday, Tasmania Police found five additional bones, two teeth and a Honda car key during a specialist examination of a 350-metre Arthur River section on Sunday and Monday, with Commander Nathan Johnston saying, `Police have today formally verified that the car key belongs to Celine`.
- After Ms Cremer's car was found at Philosopher Falls car park on June 27, 2023, renewed volunteer searches in December 2025 recovered her phone and bones roughly 3 kilometres from the trail.
- Because of the difficult terrain, personnel from Tasmania Police and Ambulance Tasmania wilderness paramedics were winched in, camped overnight on Sunday, then extracted yesterday evening after a thorough search beneath riverbed debris.
- Further recoveries, including more human remains and clothing believed to have belonged to Ms Cremer, were found in the days after police said forensic testing is continuing and Commander Nathan Johnston added that "We are continuing our liaison with Celine's family to keep them informed as we review the search efforts to date."
- An earlier detailed search unfolded amid treacherous weather conditions and failed to find signs beyond Ms Cremer's parked car, and that initial search was called off due to freezing temperatures.
