Canadian Travel to U.S. Ticks up in June, but Remains Far Below Pre-Trump Levels
Car travel drove most of the increase, while overall visits stayed nearly 29% below June 2024 levels, Statistics Canada said.
On Monday, Statistics Canada reported that Canadians' return trips from the United States rose 3.2% to 1.7 million in June, marking the third consecutive month of year-over-year increases.
Despite the recent uptick, visitor numbers remain far below 2024 levels, representing a nearly 29% drop compared to June of 2024.
Breaking down the data, the agency reports the overall rise was driven by a 5.2% boost in car visits, while return trips by plane fell 3.8%.
Many Canadians have shifted getaway plans to domestic or overseas locations amid a prolonged backlash to President Donald Trump's tariffs and threats of annexation.
Meanwhile, Canadians returning from overseas numbered about 873,000 last month, a figure seven per cent higher than the volume recorded in 2024.
Canadian residents traveled more to the United States last month, but the number of visitors remained well below the levels of 2024, according to Statistics Canada on Monday.
