Canada's Best Pickleball Players Volley in Vernon
The four-day tournament features a $10,000 prize purse and more than 400 registered players, including four Team Canada athletes.
Starting Thursday, Oct. 15, the inaugural Okanagan Open begins at the Vernon Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Electrical Services Pickleball Complex at Marshall Field, featuring a $10,000 prize purse.
Interest in the inaugural event has been exceptional, with more than 300 players registering on the first day and the tournament now virtually sold out with more than 400 total participants.
Four Team Canada players anchor the Open Division draw, including 17-year-old Coldstream phenom Chayton Hauberg, who returns home after international competition at the World Cup in Vietnam.
Amateur Men competition kicks off the four-day schedule Thursday, while tournament director Richard Chambers noted bringing professional talent creates an incredible display of power, speed, and strategy for fans.
The tournament establishes a new competitive standard for the Vernon Pickleball Association, as premier male and female pros alongside local national team heroes set a benchmark for high-level sport in the valley.
