Canada is seeking to reduce its trade dependence on the United States. Prime Minister Mark Carney has listed the expansion of the Port of Montreal in the east of the country as one of the five biggest investment projects of the day. He has promised that his cabinet will remove some bureaucratic obstacles to speed up construction of the port.
Dozens of demonstrators gathered on 26 October at the quay of Contrecoeur to denounce again the plan to enlarge the Port of Montreal.
