- Since 2018, the Canada Revenue Agency has indexed benefit payments to the Consumer Price Index , supporting approximately 3.6 million families and nearly 6 million children through roughly $30 billion annually.
- Eligible families can now receive up to $8,157 annually for children under six and $6,883 for those aged six to 17, representing increases of $160 and $135 respectively from 2025.
- Citizenship Minister Lena Metlege Diab noted the funds help families cover school supplies, clothing, and groceries, with households earning below $38,237 qualifying for maximum payments.
- To maintain eligibility for the July 2026 to June 2027 period, the CRA requires families to file tax returns and report any marital or custody changes affecting payment amounts.
