The fire in the Boschhuizerbergen nature reserve east of Venray is far from under control. It briefly looked like it was last night. "But nothing is as unpredictable as a wildfire," says spokesperson Erik Thijssen, who mans the command post in front of the Asteria Hotel in Venray.
A fire broke out on Wednesday evening at a camper and caravan storage facility on Provincialeweg Noord in Uppel. Photos from the Safety Region showed that multiple campers were on fire. According to the Safety Region, eight campers were lost in the incident.
A pet boarding facility in Smakt, near Venray, had to evacuate within half an hour due to the wildfire raging nearby. And this happened right in the middle of the holiday season, while the facility is full.
