Call The Midwife stars reveal all ahead of new two-part Christmas special

BBC One will air a two-part Call The Midwife special that splits its storyline between Hong Kong and Poplar, with senior Nonnatus House senior staff on a mercy mission while younger Nonnatus House midwives cope in Poplar, East End.
Series writer Thomas, 63, says last year’s two-parter idea returned this year to create a diverse landscape and explore multi-generational bonds by dividing Nonnatus House characters.
Filming on location, Stephen McGann recalled enduring sweltering heat with the Hong Kong crew, while back in Poplar, Nonnatus House staged a Seventies party without nurse Rosalind, sparking mischief.
Featuring returning cast members Laura Main, Helen George, Stephen McGann and Annabelle Apsion, the special sees Sister Julienne, Jenny Agutter, energised about the Order’s future and sets up series 15 with eight new hour-long episodes.
Main, who has been on the series since 2012, says the split between Hong Kong and Poplar offers new territory, with the series creative team balancing both places deliberately this year.
