CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER INSTALLS THE KOREAN AIR 747 EXPERIENCE IN THE FUTURE SAMUEL OSCHIN AIR AND SPACE CENTER
The gallery will feature The 747 Experience and about 20 aircraft, with installation continuing for several months, officials said.
On Tuesday, the California Science Center reached a major milestone by installing the first artifacts in the Korean Air Aviation Gallery, including a retired Boeing 747-400 donated by Korean Air.
The upcoming Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center features a 200,000 square-foot addition with interactive exhibits, including a flight simulator for travel between Los Angeles and Seoul.
Beyond the 70-foot forward fuselage section of the 747, the gallery includes four suspended aircraft: a Grumman F11F-1 Tiger, a Convair F-106A Delta Dart, a Pitts Special S-1C, and a Hawker Siddeley Harrier T.4.
"We are creating a one-of-a-kind educational resource," said California Science Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rudolph, while Korean Air Chairman and CEO Walter Cho emphasized the airline's Los Angeles legacy.
Supported by more than 1,100 donors, the California Science Center Foundation has raised over $393 million toward the $450 million EndeavourLA Campaign goal to complete the project.
