California Extended a Lifeline to some of Its Aging Mobile Home Parks. What Happened Next?
California revamped its state program to support aging mobile home parks, renaming it the Manufactured Housing Opportunity and Revitalization program in 2023 to make funding more accessible.
The nonprofit Caritas Corporation transformed the Shady Lane mobile home park using $10.6 million from the MORE program along with Riverside County and Coachella city funds.
Shady Lane was the first of 28 parks to complete its rehabilitation under the new program.
Residents recall past hardships such as power outages and unsafe conditions but now describe the park as significantly improved and safe.
