Calgary to return to Stage 4 water restrictions starting March 9
Water use restrictions include bans on outdoor watering and requests to limit showers and appliance use to save 25-30 litres daily during repairs.
- On March 9, the City of Calgary will shut the Bearspaw South Feeder Main and ban outdoor water use for four weeks during construction.
- After wire snaps were detected on Feb. 13, city officials say sections along 16 Avenue N.W. near Sarcee Trail show enhanced deterioration and require reinforcement.
- Crews will excavate the pipe, build exterior steel cages, pour concrete, backfill, replace valves at 33rd Avenue and 89 Street, and inspect the connection to the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant.
- During the shutdown, the city will rely primarily on the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant, banning outdoor water use and urging residents to save 25-30 litres daily while crews prepare for possible breaks.
- The replacement pipe remains on schedule for December, and city officials say the reinforcements keep the Bearspaw South Feeder Main operating until a new parallel steel pipe can take over service.
