Calgary YouTuber charged with threatening Prime Minister Mark Carney
Jamie Dacosta, 31, a Calgary resident, faces charges for allegedly uttering death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney, according to the Calgary Police Service.
On July 28, the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team received information about death threats posted via a YouTube account targeting the prime minister.
Dacosta remains in custody, charged with uttering a threat to cause death under Section 264.1 of the Criminal Code following his arrest by the Calgary Police Service .
Today, Dacosta is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on September 15, 2026, to face the single count of uttering threats.
RCMP Federal Policing noted the security environment for public figures continues to evolve and said they are mandated to investigate threats against "internationally protected persons.
