BYD's Yangwang U9 Xtreme Becomes First Production Car to Top 500 Km/h
The electric supercar reached 503.17 km/h on open roads and became the first production car to officially pass 500 km/h, Guinness said.
- On November 6, BYD's Yangwang Xtreme officially surpassed the 500 km/h threshold, reaching 503.17 km/h during a high-speed challenge on open roads in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
- General Manager Xiaoqing of the Yangwang Sales Division announced the challenge beginning November 1, representing a 6.95 km/h improvement over the previous benchmark set at ATP Papenburg in Germany.
- Powered by four electric motors reaching speeds of 30,000 rpm, the Yangwang Xtreme delivers 2,220 kW and features extensive aero upgrades including a large carbon front splitter.
- The Yangwang Xtreme was awarded a Guinness World Records title for this achievement, with production limited to no more than 30 units manufactured globally.
- Unlike previous tests on closed proving grounds, the Xtreme contended with desert dust and crosswinds. The vehicle also holds a lap record at the Nordschleife, becoming the first mass-produced electric supercar to break the seven-minute barrier.
