BYD snaps longest streak of sales declines
Overseas sales topped 160,000 for the first time, offsetting weaker demand at home as BYD sold 383,453 new energy vehicles.
- On Monday, Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD snapped its longest streak of declining sales in May, selling 383,453 new energy vehicles.
- Overseas shipments rose 80.4% to 160,644 units, offsetting persistent softness in China where domestic sales fell 24% for the 13th consecutive month.
- By powertrain, the company sold 198,674 purely electric vehicles in May, up 27% from the prior month, while plug-in hybrid sales rose 14% to 178,316 units.
- Expanding its international footprint, BYD plans to launch the Dolphin G DM-i in overseas markets this year, alongside new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology.
- Competition remains intense, with analyst Li Yanwei of the China Automobile Dealers Association noting that Geely's Galaxy series is pulling buyers away with competitive pricing.
