BWF approves switch to 3x15 scoring system from next year
- On Saturday, the Badminton World Federation members approved a 3x15 scoring system during their 87th BWF Annual General Meeting in Horsens, Denmark, replacing the current 3x21 structure.
- The proposal passed with an 82.16% majority, as 198 members voted in favor while 43 opposed the measure, exceeding the required two-thirds threshold.
- BWF president Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul said, "We are building a sport that speaks to the next generation," noting the system aims to reduce player workloads and improve recovery.
- The BWF Council previously tested the format throughout 2025 at Grade 3 tournaments, the National Championships, and the BWF World Junior Championships in Guwahati.
- Beginning January 4, 2027, matches will maintain best-of-three-games format, but each game ends at 15 points with a two-point advantage required at 14-14.
