Richland Co. Mayor Charged with Voyeurism After Allegedly Sniffing Teen Girl’s Underwear
Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus faces voyeurism charges after motion-activated camera captured him entering a teen's bedroom twice, Richland County deputies said.
Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus faces two counts of voyeurism after records say he was caught on camera smelling a teen girl's underwear and is scheduled for Mansfield Municipal Court on Thursday.
The teenager told officials she was suspicious that Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus had been entering her bedroom and purchased a small motion-activated video camera to monitor the room, receiving a motion alert about 15 minutes after leaving for school on Jan. 13.
According to the records, footage allegedly showed an adult male identified as Dingus entering the girl's room and smelling the underwear, while the 7:17 a.m. alert captured him touching his groin over clothes.
A Richland County deputy and Richland County Children's Services representative interviewed the victim at her high school, and after consulting Assistant Law Director Rob Sharp, deputies prepared and issued summonses for voyeurism charges on February 12 and 13.
The records also note Dingus faces separate July 2025 charges, and the mayor's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
