In the case surrounding Linz Mayor Klaus Luger, party leader Andreas Babler spoke up and called on Luger to resign as city party leader. Shortly thereafter, Upper Austrian SPÖ boss Michael Lindner announced in the “Oberösterreichische Nachrichten” (“OÖN”) that Luger was following the appeal with immediate effect. But Luger wanted to remain mayor.

According to Babler, Luger's behavior was "inexcusable." Selma Yildirim, the Tyrolean SPÖ member of the National Council, was also "unpleasantly surprised" and wants to address the case at the federal party executive committee meeting. The Linz city council is planning a motion of no confidence.
