Bulls Unleash 'Mature' Curwin Bosch for All Blacks Clash at Loftus
Codie Taylor will captain the All Blacks for the first time as they use the match to sharpen selection battles before the first Test, coach Dave Rennie said.
On Thursday, New Zealand Rugby confirmed flyhalf Richie Mo'unga has joined the All Blacks' touring squad in South Africa, replacing injured centre Billy Proctor who is returning home with a shoulder injury.
Flyhalf Damian McKenzie's ankle sprain during Tuesday's 54-0 victory over the Sharks prompted All Blacks coach Dave Rennie to activate the 32-year-old, who recently became eligible after returning from three years in Japan.
Since returning on August 1, Mo'unga scored a match-winning try against Auckland and guided Canterbury to a 19-15 Ranfurly Shield victory over Otago. Rennie described him as the "obvious choice" to learn the team's systems.
While Mo'unga must quickly integrate the squad's tactical systems, Rennie expects the flyhalf to be fit for the first Test against the Springboks on August 22. Proctor's departure leaves a gap in the touring group.
The All Blacks prepare for their final warm-up against the Bulls before facing the Springboks at Ellis Park. This tour represents a critical period for players to secure Rugby World Cup selection.
