Fibre Demand and Cost Savings Shore up Earnings for BT
BT reported underlying earnings of £8.21 billion for the year to March 31, 2025, with revenues close to £20.4 billion and a 3% reduction in staff.
The company accelerated cost-cutting and simplification efforts, including reducing its direct workforce by 8% and restructuring its international operations.
Openreach, BT’s network division, drove earnings growth by expanding fibre broadband coverage and saw both revenue and earnings rise despite pressure on other units.
Chief Executive Allison Kirkby announced an increase of 20% in the fibre network expansion goal, aiming to connect as many as five million UK homes during 2025-26, and stated the company remains well positioned to achieve 25 million connections by the close of 2026.
BT expects little change in earnings this year, plans further cost reductions of billions, and seeks to focus more on its UK business amid continued revenue pressure.
