Brunswick Complex sees little impact from rain as strong winds approach
BC Wildfire Service said 146 firefighters and 18 helicopters are battling wind-driven growth as crews protect nearby communities and highways.
- The Brunswick Complex, consisting of the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek wildfires near Boston Bar, now covers approximately 43,294 hectares, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
- Increasing southwesterly winds on Friday fuelled significant growth on the southern and eastern flanks, while localized outflow winds developing through the Fraser Canyon from Sunday into Monday may intensify fire behaviour.
- Highway 1 remains closed from Toll Road to Jackass Summit due to downed power lines and debris, with the Fraser Valley Regional District issuing evacuation orders for the area from Alexandra Lodge to Sawmill Creek.
- The BCWS has assigned 146 firefighters, 18 helicopters, and 56 pieces of heavy equipment to the complex, with geotechnical staff installing a temporary bridge to enable direct attack access on difficult eastern terrain.
- Officials warn that outflow winds may spread the fire along the southern perimeter towards Hell's Gate, though the blaze currently remains approximately 7-8 kilometres west of Stoyoma Mountain.
