Soccer-South Africa Confirm Exit of Belgian Coach Broos | Sports-Games

On Friday, Hugo Broos will leave his role as head coach of Bafana Bafana after his five-year contract expires today, July 31, 2026, South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan confirmed.
The 74-year-old Belgian led the team since May 2021, overseeing a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and a round of 32 appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Under his tenure, Bafana Bafana played 60 matches, winning 29 and scoring 92 goals, while Broos became the oldest coach to win at the global finals at 74 years and 75 days.
Over 80 candidates applied for the position, according to SAFA technical committee chairperson Jack Maluleke, with Pitso Mosimane widely considered the frontrunner to succeed Broos.
Bafana Bafana faces their next assignment in late September with the start of the 2027 Cup of Nations qualifiers, beginning with a home fixture against Guinea.
