Tiger Attack Victim Was Former Child Star on BBC and ITV
The park said Altai the Amur tiger is safe and will not be euthanized, while staff receive specialist support after the fatal attack.
On Saturday, October 10, former child actor William Chapman was killed after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, England.
Eyewitnesses observed Chapman "dancing" and appearing to "bow down" before entering the enclosure; some suggested he used sign language to reprimand the animal, which others speculated meant "bad!" in Makaton.
Chapman, who appeared in the ITV production May Contain Nuts and the BBC series True Stories, reportedly filmed himself approaching the tiger, with footage capturing the animal resting on a wooden platform.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park remains closed on Wednesday for a fifth consecutive day, while management confirmed the tiger, Altai, is "safe and well" and will not be euthanized.
Residents expressed concern regarding reports that the victim may have had additional needs, while others criticized the online response, noting people "seemed to care more about the tiger.
