Cycling-Richardson Withdrawn From World Championships, British Cycling Says
British Cycling removed the 27-year-old Olympic medallist as The Times reported a misconduct investigation.
Matt Richardson, 27, has been withdrawn from the Great Britain Cycling Team for the World Cycling Championships in Shanghai, running from 14-18 October, amid an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
The Times reported that Richardson is subject to investigation for serious misconduct, including "making discriminatory remarks about people from minority backgrounds and even joking about his use of the N-word."
British Cycling confirmed the 27-year-old is leaving the team's base in China and "is now out of contact," while declining to comment on the ongoing investigation to ensure procedural fairness.
Following his defection from Australia to Britain after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, AusCycling previously accused Richardson of attempting to take team gear and intellectual property with him to Great Britain.
The 200m flying lap record holder won two European titles earlier this year and was expected to contend for three medals in Shanghai before the investigation forced his withdrawal.
