Britain has proposed a new nuclear deterrent mechanism for countries participating in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF). It is an additional security mechanism, outside the formal NATO procedures.
The United Kingdom has announced an additional nuclear umbrella over the JEF countries. Poland is not among them. Lithuania and other Baltic and Nordic countries may soon find themselves under the UK's nuclear umbrella, Finnish media reports. An agreement is expected to be reached in Oslo in November, a message conveyed to the capitals by the UK's First Sea Lord, who recently visited Vilnius.
The British nuclear deterrence capability will be used to support Finland and other member countries of the United Expeditionary Force (JEF), which includes the Nordic States, by Gwin Jenkins, Chief of Staff of the British Navy, in an interview with Iltalehti.
The new mechanism will be able to work even without the activation of NATO's fifth article
