Brewers Counting on Misiorowski vs. Rays in Game 1
Milwaukee wants Jacob Misiorowski to rebound after two short postseason starts as the 24-year-old faces veteran Nick Martinez in Game 1.
On Friday, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski faces Tampa Bay Rays veteran Nick Martinez in the World Series opener. This matchup marks the first meeting since 1980 between two teams seeking their first championship title.
Both teams ranked in the bottom half of payrolls reached the Series by eliminating higher-spending rivals. The Brewers were 19th in payroll as of Aug. 31, while the Rays ranked 25th, marking the first such pairing since 1991.
Misiorowski, a 24-year-old right-hander, threw 1,115 pitches of 100 mph or higher this year, shattering the prior record of 673. He aims to break the 101.1 mph Series record for a starter held by New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard.
Rays manager Kevin Cash confirmed Ace Drew Rasmussen will start Game 2 with extra rest, followed by former Brewers ace Freddy Peralta in Game 3. Martinez said, "I think as a team, as a staff, we're confident in whoever we call up for the mound."
Milwaukee returns after a 44-year absence, recalling the 1982 'Harvey's Wallbangers' squad. This Series is the first played entirely indoors and the first featuring the Automated Ball-Strike System, where batters succeeded on 63% of challenges in the postseason.
