- Governor Seyi Makinde established a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities, with the panel scheduled for inauguration on Friday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
- The victims were abducted on May 15 in Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, remaining in captivity for 56 days before their rescue earlier this month.
- Governor Makinde expressed skepticism about the circumstances, alleging the abduction occurred hours after he declared his intention to contest for president, telling Allied Peoples Movement leaders the timing was suspicious.
- Makinde previously requested United Nations involvement, but the Nigerian Senate rejected the call for foreign intervention, arguing the kidnapping remains a domestic security matter to be handled within Nigeria.
- The commission will assess the response of relevant authorities and recommend measures to prevent future abductions, aiming to improve security and safeguard schools throughout Oyo State, according to Dotun Oyelade.
