BREAKING | Rassie Erasmus Names Springboks: Fullback Quan Horn Handed Shock Starting No 10 Role
Erasmus said injuries and rest forced the selection, with the Springboks using Lions fullback Quan Horn at flyhalf to test depth.
On Tuesday, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus named Quan Horn to start at flyhalf for Saturday's Barbarians test in Gqeberha, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu sidelined by an ankle injury.
Erasmus opted to test depth at flyhalf because Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is injured and Handre Pollard is unavailable due to club commitments, giving Horn, typically a Lions fullback, his first senior start at the position.
The squad features 18 capped internationals, with Riley Norton and Carlu Sadie making Test debuts in the starting lineup, while JJ Kotze, Paul de Villiers, and Vusi Moyo are uncapped bench players.
Erasmus said he is "impressed with the way the new players have jumped straight into action," while describing the Barbarians as an "exciting and experienced" squad that will test the Springboks.
Saturday's fixtures include South Africa A facing Zimbabwe at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, with both matches serving as preparation for the Nations Championship and Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series.
