Ronaldo Gets 30-Day Ban and €255 Fine From Portuguese FA
The federation upheld the charge after Ronaldo left camp amid a dispute over his role, and the sanction does not affect his club duties.
On Monday, The Portugal Federation suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days and fined him 255 euros following his unauthorized departure from the national team's camp.
Ronaldo left the team base in Copenhagen earlier this month after accusing coach Jorge Jesus of twice breaking his word about his playing role following his status as an unused substitute against Norway.
The disciplinary council found Ronaldo intentionally committed an offense under federation regulations; he later apologized for leaving his teammates and failing to acknowledge supporters.
Officials did not specify which matches the suspension covers, or whether time served under a provisional suspension counts toward the 30-day sanction.
Portuguese FA president Pedro Proenca stated that everyone within the federation wants Ronaldo to return to the national team once the matter is resolved.
Cristiano Ronaldo received a fairly lenient sanction of 30 days of suspension for having left the national team rally after a conflict with his breeder on 30 September, announced Monday 19 October the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
