Former India Captain Dravid to Co-Own Dublin Franchise in European T20 ...
The former India captain joins an Indian consortium that bought the team as the six-team league prepares for a September 2026 launch.
On Monday, former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid became co-owner of the Dublin Guardians, a franchise in the new European Twenty20 league , as part of an Indian consortium ahead of the tournament's September 2026 launch.
Designed to position Europe as a growth frontier, the ETPL is backed by the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, utilizing a unique cross-border franchise model across six cities.
Dravid said he joined because "the larger vision behind it" attracted him, citing grassroots development opportunities. Other franchises are owned by former West Indies batter Chris Gayle and former Australia captain Steve Waugh.
The league will feature international stars like Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis, creating unique opportunities for players from Associate Nations to compete alongside world-class cricketers and elevate the sport's quality.
Cricket Ireland Chair Brian MacNeice called the league a "landmark moment" for the European ecosystem, noting its potential to significantly boost participation growth and strengthen pathways for future generations.
