Brazil's Lula Bans Online Betting Ahead of Elections

The government linked betting to household debt and described it as a public-health problem, citing more than 60 billion reais flowing from families to legal betting companies.
New betting advertisements and sponsorship contracts were banned immediately, while existing contracts were set to end after October 6.
Flamengo warned that the decision could harm professional and youth football, women’s football, Olympic sports, and other competitions.
