Climate change dries out Germany's forests, droughts and heat waves increase the risk of forest fire in many regions. This not only endangers people and destroys natural spaces – the fires also set a dangerous cycle in motion.
Fire brigades in Brandenburg and Harz fight several forest fires.
In Brandenburg's forests, two larger fires have erupted. High temperatures and weapons in the ground make the work of the forces more difficult. At night, however, the situation is under control.
The Brandenburg fire brigade is currently fighting several forest fires at the same time. In the district of Elbe-Elster it burns on at least 13 hectares, a nearby village was temporarily evacuated.
The risk of forest fires is high – and the fire service is fighting major fires in two areas on the first days of July.
