Boy, 16, has potentially life-threatening injuries after shooting near UK mosque
The 17-year-old remains in custody as detectives seek witnesses and footage after the 16-year-old victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
A 16-year-old boy was shot on Bowyer Road in Alum Rock, Birmingham, shortly before 5:30pm on Wednesday and remains in critical condition after being rushed to hospital.
Although the shooting occurred near the Zia Ul Quran Masjid, West Midlands Police stated they do not believe the incident is linked to the mosque as officers conduct forensic and CCTV enquiries.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock from the Major Crime Team said, "Our investigation is continuing," and urged witnesses with dashcam or doorbell footage to contact police on 101 quoting log 4638.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident and remains in police custody while detectives continue their investigation.
Birmingham City councillors Nosheen Khalid and Shaukat Mahmood urged residents to avoid online speculation, stating they were "deeply saddened" by the incident and warning that unverified information can hinder the investigation.
