Both engines flamed out before small jet crashed in June on Texas highway, NTSB report says

The NTSB said low fuel pressure and other failures led to the crash, which killed one person and injured six.

  • On Friday, the National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report revealing that dual engine failure forced a business jet to crash on a Texas highway on June 16, preventing pilots from reaching Laredo International Airport.
  • Flight crew members reported an "unusual vibration" early in the flight, later communicating "multiple other failures" and "fuel level low" to Houston air traffic controllers as they attempted to divert to Laredo.
  • The crew "maneuvered the airplane to touch down" on the highway about 1.6 kilometers from the airport, shearing light poles and striking a vehicle. The crash killed Austin tech entrepreneur Joshua Baer.
  • Five people escaped the burning wreckage after the main cabin door was opened. NetJets, the company operating The Cessna Citation Latitude, said, "Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy."
  • The NTSB preliminary report does not contain a "probable cause" for the crash. NTSB investigator Mitchell Gallo stated a final report will be released in approximately one year once the investigation is completed.
