- Book replaces Sebastian Kehl, who served as sporting director since 2022 and oversaw Dortmund's 2024 Champions League final run, departing with the club 9 points behind Bayern Munich.
- Also on Monday, Dortmund announced midfielder Felix Nmecha will be out for "several weeks" with a knee injury, ruling him out of Germany's friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana.
