Borno govt. to close down Muna IDP camp
- Governor Babagana Zulum announced on Monday the plan to close the Muna IDP camp in Maiduguri within the next few weeks.
- The closure follows his administration’s efforts to resettle displaced families due to rising illicit activities like prostitution and child abuse in the camp.
- Muna camp, one of the largest in Borno hosting over 11,000 families, has seen about 75 percent of residents already resettled, mainly to Dikwa and Mafa local areas.
- Zulum stated that each of the 6,000 resettled families will receive food, shelter materials, healthcare access, and financial support of N100,000 per household head and N50,000 for housewives.
- The closure signifies a move away from immediate humanitarian aid toward sustainable recovery efforts, as the government works to shut down remaining displacement camps in Maiduguri and help affected individuals rebuild their lives.
