Border czar: ICE operations planned for New York City
Tom Homan plans to increase ICE enforcement due to New York City's sanctuary status after Canal Street raids that included four American citizens, officials and residents report.
- Tom Homan said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom" that he plans to ramp up Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence in New York City, adding, `I plan on being in New York City in the near future. We're going to do operations in New York City.`
- Last month, an ICE raid on Canal Street led to numerous Manhattan street vendors being arrested, while the Trump administration opposes New York City's sanctuary policies limiting federal cooperation.
- Residents reported masked men dragging people off the street into unmarked vehicles, and four American citizens arrested during the Canal Street raid were held overnight at 26 Federal Plaza.
- Other New York elected officials vowed not to be intimidated by Homan, while City Hall said Mayor Eric Adams has worked to keep New Yorkers safe and pledged not to collaborate on immigration enforcement.
- New York City's more than three million immigrants could be affected by expanded ICE operations as Adams and Homan have met multiple times since last year and the administration explores a Coast Guard facility on Staten Island.
