Delhi High Court Receives Bomb Threat Email Ahead of Independence Day, Searches Underway
Authorities found no suspicious items as security teams searched six sites and traced the threats to an email and phone calls, officials said.
On Friday, the Delhi High Court and five other locations, including the Indira Gandhi International Airport, received bomb threats ahead of Independence Day, prompting immediate security checks across the national capital.
The email to the Delhi High Court warned of a "BOMB Blast Delhi High Court @ 2:11PM" on August 15; purportedly originating from Babar Khalsa Canada, the message contained references to Khalistan.
Five additional sites, including Jamnagar House and the Delhi Cantonment SDM, received similar threats via phone calls, as the Delhi Fire Services Department rushed fire tenders to all locations.
Joint Secretary Kunal stated the threat "appears to be fake," noting that bomb squads found no suspicious items and judicial work at the Delhi High Court continued as scheduled.
Authorities had intensified security measures earlier this week, displaying photographs of 19 wanted terrorists, as multiple security agencies work in close coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
